Testing of Claws of Chaos, Fleets at War expansion
by theMonk (Posted Sun Nov 25, 2012 2:35 pm)
Today we began play testing of Claws of Chaos, the first expansion for the Fleets at War sci-fi wargame. Although I have some testers, we could always use more. If you're interested in helping as well, please let me know. Be aware that you'll need to have the Fleets at War rules already to test this expansion. If you take part in the testing, you will get a free copy of the finished Claws of Chaos PDF once it's published, hopefully around Christmas. :-)

Looking for gamebook critiques!
by greendragon (Posted Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:50 am)
Hello and thank you for accepting me as a member of this site. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and enjoying the many functions the site has to offer. I am hosting a gamebook competition and am looking for book critiques that would be interested in reading solo game systems for these type of books. Perhaps you have heard of "Choose your own Adventures" or "The Lone Wolf Series" by Joe Dever, or even "The Fighting Fantasy Series" by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. If you have then you know what kind of books I am talking about. If not, then just type in your search bar gamebook wikipedia and you will get a complete history about them.
If you are interested in becoming a gamebook critique and enjoy the benefit of reading such games then let me know. I can be reach at firstname.lastname@example.org or just post a thread here and I will answer as soon as possible. Have a great day and looking forward to hearing from anyone as I just joined this site.
Pathfiinder Super Heroes
by Hemdog560 (Posted Sun Jan 08, 2012 9:56 pm)
Avalon Games is in the process of working on a Pathfinder compatible super hero system. Heroes Weak Masks will be fully compatible system with Pathfinder, so if you are even passably familiar with this great game, then HWM will be no effort at all to jump into.
Avalon has reached the stage where we are looking for input on the system and its rules. Basically we want to make this the best game possible and so we of course are looking for the best gamers to have a look, kick the tires and tell us what we need to do, change and improve on so that you get the game you want.
With that in mind Avalon is opening the system up for review and comments, play testing and tinkering.
If you would like to become a part of the design discussion, then drop a line to our content director, Rob, at...
Avalon will then send you a copy of the system as it stands now, as well as a link to the forum we will be using for the discussion.
So this is your chance to get in at the bottom floor of this great game and to make you mark.
playtesters wanted for sci-fi RPG
by Eidolon (Posted Sun Dec 11, 2011 6:28 am)
I am almost finished the manuscript for a sci-fi RPG I’ve been working on. I’m looking to see if anyone would be interested in giving it a look over to proide some feedback and thoughts, and/or doing some playtesting.
The manuscript will be about 350 pages long once it’s all put together. There is no artwork on it yet. It’s all words just now.
A quick glance at the chapters that are included:
1. The Galaxy: A quick history, tour of the primary regions and some info about life in the present age.
2. Character Creation: Rules for creating characters. There are 20 races to chose from, and a pile of background and career packages. Character generation uses a points system to buy stats and skills.
3. The Rules: All the mechanics you need to play the game.
4. Equipment: A wide selection of gear, weapons and armour, including a fair amount of customising options.
5. Explosives: Grenades, rockets and demolitions get their own chapter with the relevant rules.
6. Robots: Rules for how robots work, guidelines to create new robots, and the stats for 23 common robots.
7. Vehicles: All the rules you need to use vehicles in the game, and stats for 54 vehicles, divided into civilian, security and military vehicles.
8. Aircraft: All the rules you need for aircraft, and the stats for 24 aircraft. Also includes a section on bomb-bay ordinance.
9. Spacecraft: All the rules you need for spacecraft, and the stats for 40 spacecraft.
10. Cybernetics: Cyber enhancements to add to characters.
11. Psionics: The rules for psionics in the game, and includes psionic specific backgrounds and careers, and 135 psionic powers.
12. Planets: A random planet generator, and the stats and figures for the galaxy’s 40 most important planets.
13. The Gamesmaster: Guidelines for the GM, some more rules that weren’t needed in the basic rules chapter but the GM might like, and rules for things like the environment and natural hazards.
14. NPCs and animals. Stats for stock NPCs and animals.
15. There will be an introductory adventure as well. This won’t be included in the basic manuscript, but will be added once some playtesting has been done and any tinkering that is required has been done to the system.
It's a simple d6 system. Whatever your skill level is, you roll that many d6 and add them all together. The total of the roll has to pass a Target Number for the check to be succesful. Everything else, like weapon damage, is also a number of d6 that get rolled and added together. The GM sets the Target Number for the check, then any modifiers that get applied change how many d6 you get to roll.
The game is set amid a galactic civil war. There was once a galactic Empire, but society has fallen apart and there has been several hundred years of war and strife. The galaxy is now divided between fractured governments, corporations and warlords, all of who are fighting for their own survival. The population of the galaxy is only 20% of what it used to be, and most of the planets’ urban areas lie derelict and damaged.
The setting includes an original form of inter-stellar travel, which should inspire some cool artwork (you’ll only find out more about that if you want to look over the game and hopefully playtest it). Spacecraft only operate in space; they get you from planet to planet, and you then have to use aircraft in the planet’s atmosphere.
The factions of the galaxy are all at war with each other and struggling to survive and prosper, but nobody has the resources anymore to fight full scale wars, so everyone now uses small units, special forces, and sabotage. The player characters take on the role of mercenary agents who hire their services out to the factions, to perform any type of mission imaginable, from military actions, assassination, theft, bodyguard, hijack, data-theft, exploration, smuggling, etc etc.
I would greatly appreciate the opinions and thoughts of anyone who will take the time to look over the manuscript, and hopefully some people will be interested in playtesting, giving constructive feedback and helping to shape this game before it gets completed and published.
If you’re interested, reply on here or drop me a private message. I’ll be in touch soon to arrange sending you the manuscript.
Play Testers Wanted - Dragonfire Mountain
by TheDungeoneer (Posted Tue Mar 15, 2011 2:43 pm)
Interested in trying out a new Fantasy Board Game? For free?
I'm designing a new open gaming system for board games and this is the first game produced from that concept.
Dragonfire Mountain is similar to Talisman, with elements of MTG and a little bit of humor mixed in.
The game boards, manuals, and cards are all in PDF and you can download them here: http://www.dungeoneering.net/dragonfire-mountain-the-beta-begins/
This is version 0.1 of the game and I'm looking for feedback, problems, and questions.
Discussion boards are located at: http://forum.dungeoneering.net
Thanks so much and happy gaming!
RPGtonight online Living Game second round of playtests
by The Hound (Posted Sat Feb 26, 2011 8:35 pm)
The RPGtonight online living game playtest is getting into full swing with almost nightly games now. We have 9 GMs with a few admins acting as extras when needed, and we need more players (though we won't turn you away if you are interested in being a GM).
This is the second round of playtesting for a unique online tabletop style "living game," that began in January and will run for several months. The living game is a persistent "sandbox" world where multiple GMs and dozens of players all play and interact within the same game world. It is quite a bit different from traditional living games like Living Greyhawk. The GMs, as well as the players, play the game, taking the part of noble houses who must hire adventuring parties of players to accomplish their goals and fight a menacing evil that is slowly rising up to threaten their kingdom - GMs can also occasionally become players in the admins' or other GM's games. It's like an an MMO done tabletop style. If interested please take a look at the information on the main page of our site ( www.rpgtonight.com ) and in the Living Game Information and Recruitment section of our message boards. Free rules sets are emailed to GMs and players promptly.
Game times depend on the schedules of the GMs and the players. The playtests use the D&D 4e system, simply because that is what most people in the world are playing right now.
The Nymian Beastlands CS Playtesting (Pathfinder RPG)
by xidoraven (Posted Fri Nov 19, 2010 12:02 am)
This will be the official discussion board for playtesting material related to The Nymian Beastlands Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Compatible campaign setting by Krewe of Harpocrates Publication, LLC. With official release of the upcoming free digital and/or inexpensive print-on-demand (PoD) full-color document, 'A Playtester's Guide to the Lands and Peoples of Omarka,' begins the first phase of playtesting material released in upcoming Playtest Packs. This guide will be available for PoD as of December 1st, 2010, and possibly as early as November 24th in the digital-only PDF format. This guide will be distributed through RPGnow.com and Paizo.com in digital format, and only RPGnow.com for PoD format. Discussions may also take place on the comments/discussions regarding the playtest packs as they are released directly on the Paizo.com product listings, in addition to the discussions here and the direct feedback email for Krewe of Harpocrates (TBD).
With this posting, I am merely beginning this process and there will be more to come prior to and at the time of the Playtester's Guide release. If you are interested in playtesting, please volunteer with the proper methods when they are made available at the time of the guide's final release. Those will be listed here in due time.
Thanks and best wishes!

GUTS and IRON RPG!!!
by Dirk (Posted Sun Feb 14, 2010 9:46 pm)
Guts and Iron RPG is alive and well and lives in wiki form at the following link...
The game is brutal, gritty, and mean. It uses a 2d6 mechanic where you add modifiers so it's simple to learn and easy to play. We are constantly updating the wiki and look forward to hearing from anyone who wishes to play test or submit content for the game.
Oh and the game is completely free as well. So go check it out and kill something mean!
Seeking Playtest Groups
by skrue_luse (Posted Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:30 am)
If you're still looking for playtesters, my group has everything from old fatbeards kike myself to newer guys with only a year or so of gaming. We also have both genders and a little ethnic diversity, so we'd give a good cross section.
SUPER CRUSADERS RPG
by LAST CRUSADER (Posted Tue Jul 14, 2009 4:41 pm)
I'm looking for feedback about the superhero game I created. Check it out at http://supercrusaders.blogspot.com/ and let me know what you think. Play it some, and tell me how it goes. If it isn't clear ask me questions. If there's something wrong I need to know. If you like it, I'd love to hear about it. The game is going to be free to download for a few more months.
